Music in its many forms provides enjoyment for people and learning to play guitar is just one way that you can have this pleasure for yourself and others. Before you can truly play the guitar decently though, you will need to have beginning guitar lessons as well as a guitar!

On the face of it, as an instrument the guitar doesn’t seem to have much to advocate it to someone who’s looking to buy this instrument. However, all this can change from the very first minute you begin your first guitar lessons. Beginning guitar players should not become disheartened even before they take their first lessons.

Guitar is an intricate process of learning. It takes patiences, articulation and a strong desire to learn. There are many faucets to understand when learning this new instrument. So, stay the course and be open to the learning process, you will be glad you did.

Beginning guitar lessons gives you an opportunity to build a foundation. Some of the things you will learn are:

* Parts of the guitar

* Names of the open strings

* The process of tuning the guitar

* How to hold and use a pick

* How to play a chromatic scale

* How to play simple songs using Gmajor, Cmajor and Dmajor chords

Now this is no means the standard and even what you will learn. Every instruction and institution teaches different elements of beginner guitar. This however, gives you an idea as to the things and level at which you will learn.

You will be able to find instructors who can give you beginning guitar lessons from your local community and also from your local newspapers and even online. Although, these are not the only ways that you can learn about beginning guitar lessons. There are numerous books and audio tapes and CDs which will also provide will the ability to learn.

However, learning from these sources has it’s disadvantages, such as:

* No personal instructor to critique your learning and no one to asks questions

* Learning bad habits that are often hard to break

* No sound feedback

This is just to name a few, of course there are many more.

When looking for an instructor choose someone who you feel comfortable with and who you respect or look up to. This person should be experience and play the genre of music you are wanting to learn. Ask for references, bio and any other information that will provide you with the information needed to make a decision.

One major aspect of learning guitar is that of confidence. Without this confidence you will not be able to understand the diverse operating instructions that you are given in your guitar lesson.

For this reason if you are learning to play the guitar from an instructor you should be able to ask the teacher for advice and help if you feel that you are missing out on some point of the lesson.

Also once you are well-situated holding the guitar and you have learned to identify the assorted chords in your beginning guitar lessons, you can then continue to learn how to mix these basic chords together to produce a little song or a tune.

Remember, learning guitar takes patiences, confidence and the desire to learn the instrument. Like anything else in life, without these fundamental elements your guitar experience may be short lived.

Having beginning guitar lessons is one of the best ways you can learn to play guitar and transform your little tunes into beautiful songs. It gives you an avenue to express yourself and give the world a little piece of yourself. Good luck in your endeavors and have fun…

For most of us, learning an instrument requires an enormous amount of dedication %u2013 understanding fundamental principles and techniques before embarking upon long practices. Practicing long hours will finally reward the student with a working knowledge of the instrument. And, if they are lucky, after many years of hard work they may even become quite a masterful player. The guitar, especially, is held up as one of the more popular instruments to which people dedicate themselves. With images of musical grandeur in their heads they apply themselves night and day to the practice of guitar in the hopes of someday becoming proficient. But there are a rare few of us who can actually learn guitar by ear %u2013 an inherent skill that graces only the lucky among us.

Ultimately, you never know until you try if you can learn guitar by ear. If you are interested in taking up guitar and have a few chosen songs that you would really like to learn to play %u2013 try it out. If you play the song on a CD, those who can play guitar by ear can mimic the notes they hear on their own instruments. For those who have a working knowledge of the guitar %u2013 the ways in which to hold it and the tone that each vibrating chord makes %u2013 the possibility to learn guitar by ear is far more probable. Until you really understand the sounds that each chord is capable of making, it will be difficult to replicate the sounds you hear in your music on the strings of your guitar.

In some cases it is possible to train yourself to learn guitar by ear. Begin by learning the sounds the strings make on your guitar; really process this and hear it in your head as well as your ears. Listen to how the sounds change as you change chords and begin to listen to the music on your CDs with an ear towards those chord changes. You will soon begin to hear chord changes in the songs that you have listened to over and over without ever previously recognizing those chords. It%u2019s amazing how your ear changes once you begin to learn guitar; suddenly you are able to make those necessary correlations between the sound that your guitar makes and the sound that the guitar makes in some of your favorite songs. Pick one part of the song and begin to try it out on your own guitar; keep trying until you are able to replicate the sound. Soon enough you%u2019ll be able to piece the song together; often sounds are just repetition of the same chords.

While playing music adeptly by ear is in inherent skill, you can still learn guitar by ear if you are dedicated and single-minded in your task.

For novice guitar players, learning to play chords can seem daunting. Watching skilled guitarists, it seems effortless, but actually doing it yourself may prove a bit more challenging. However, as with anything, regular practice and an understanding of the basics can make guitar chords more accessible than you think. While playing one-string melodies can be a fun way to get accustomed to guitar playing, the true personality and flavor of guitar music relies on chords.

What is a guitar chord? Simply put, a chord is performed by striking two or more strings on a guitar. More specifically, this generally involves playing some combination of fretted and open strings. For instance, the A5 chord is played by holding down the second fret of the D string, and striking both the A and D string together. The A major, on the hand, requires the second frets of the D, G, and B strings to be held down, and all strings except the low E string to be played.

One of the big challenges in playing guitar chords is the need to use several fingers in a relatively cramped space, while putting even pressure on each fret, all while ensuring you only strike the strings you’re supposed to. It can be challenging at first, but it does get easier with practice. Some more complex chords require multiple strings to be fretted by the same finger (barre chords), requiring even more finger flexibility. Perhaps the most challenging aspect of chords is the need to quickly and smoothly transition from one chord to the next. Again, experienced players make this look like a cinch, but it does take some getting used to.

To help learn how to finger certain chords, there are many easy-to-follow tools available to the novice player. Guitar chord diagrams may be the easiest to understand when practicing chords. These are basic diagrams that show the basic layout of a guitar neck (vertically), and notate which frets to press and which strings to strike. Guitar tablature (tabs) work in a similar fashion, and show you how to finger the chord while actually playing a song. Here, the neck is shown horizontally as it would appear if the guitar were laying face up on your lap, and numbers on each string indicate which fret should be held. For example, a “1″ on the G string would indicated that the 1st fret should be pressed, while a “0″ would mean the string should be played open. No number means the string is not played at all.

While learning guitar chords does take some work, it is well worth the effort. Chords give new depth and richness to guitar music that can’t be achieved by playing single strings. Look online for resources for learning how to play different chords, such as chord diagrams and guitar tabs. With perserverance, it won’t be long until chords come naturally and require almost no effort or extra thought.

I suppose you think that you learn guitar by playing guitar. Well, do you learn to say the right things by talking all the time? Let’s take a look at the art of not playing guitar…

How can you learn to play guitar by not playing? Is it really possible to develop as a guitarist without touching the instrument?

In weight training it is an established fact that muscle growth takes place during rest, for example when you sleep. It doesn’t mean that you will become a famous muscle builder by sleeping. Sleeping is just a part of the overall picture called muscle growth.

Don’t ever think that you will become a good guitarist by not playing guitar at all!

But I define a good guitarist as a good musician. A good musician can convey his musical emotions to somebody else and this ability takes more than just practicing moving the fingers among all those guitar strings.

What can you do to become a better guitarist and a musician when you don’t play? Let me give you a few suggestions:

1. If you play classical guitar, get into the habit of often reading guitar sheet music without your guitar. This practice gives you training in the art of hearing the sheet music in your head and also gives you a better chance to really learn notational symbols in the music and rhythmic subtleties.

2. Take a week off from your guitar playing every now and then and use all your musical energy listening to good music or just being a good citizen. Learn to spot musical and artistic heights in the music. Listen to all types of instrumentalists. With concentration. My best listening position is laying flat on my bed with headphones on forgetting the rest of the world. Maybe you have another approach.

If you feel and enjoy musical and artistic expressions in the music these will probably be implemented in your own guitar playing sooner or later.

3. Be a good musical friend by helping somebody else to play. It will help you become more unselfish and like people more. Well, maybe you already like people sufficiently but to learn to like people is part of our development as musicians as we are supposed to give of ourselves to others when we play.

4. Prepare your body and mind for playing guitar by learning the art of relaxation and stretching your muscles. You can of course find articles on these subjects on the net. Performing in a relaxed manner will help you enjoy your own music more and will help your public to relax and enjoy your music too.

5. Take time to sit down, or stand up if you like, and ponder about what guitar playing means to you. Is there something that you would like to develop in your guitar playing that will give you more joy and happiness. Set a realistic goal and write down what you can do every week to accomplish that goal.

I believe in practicing on my guitar of course but I hope that these pieces of advice concerning not playing guitar will increase your love for your guitar and the art of playing and giving musical joy to others!

Whatever musical genre you are into, you will need to learn how to play chords. There are varying degrees of focus on learning chords. In rock, country and blues you can get away with learning a few chord shapes to play the I IV V chord progression in all the keys you need to play in. In classical guitar you learn to read written musical notation by starting with simple pieces of music. There is little or no separate learning of chords. In jazz you learn many different exotic chords in your quest for the ability to express yourself in all keys and modes.

The general idea for anyone starting an online guitar course is that you will be learning to play guitar chords as you progress through your guitar lessons. If you examine guitar theory you will see that learning about scales and the circle of fifths will give you an understanding of how chords are created. You will have the power to understand why chords sound good together and you will be able to make your own chords as and when you need them according to your understanding of music. You can let go of chord charts and make the music you play your own.

For beginners, chord charts are the way they get their introduction to playing music. No sheet music or tabs to learn, just get your head around the idea that chord charts are pictures of the guitar neck, and away you go. This is when reality can bite. Making chord shapes can be painful, and learning to make chord changes can be slow and discouraging. This is where repeated practice comes to the rescue like dude on a white horse. Practicing chord changes is the magical element that turns you into a guitar player instead of a guitar fan.

So let’s go online to find the tools to learn chords. The first step in learning guitar chords is to find some free guitar chord charts online. They are not hard to find. Then you will need to get tabs or sheet music for some songs that you enjoy. It is not a good idea to just learn chords without also learning some songs to use the chords in. That is just too boring. The next step is to watch videos on YouTube or a similar site where people have uploaded clips of themselves explaining how to play basic guitar chords. You will possibly be able to find someone teaching how to play your favorite song.

To learn to play chords you make use of your body’s talent for remembering movements. If you watch somebody in a sandwich shop or some other line of work that involves repeated small movements, you will see that they move very fast, just like a guitar player does. Typing is a good example. You learn the location of the letters, you get a basic understanding of how to hold you hands and arms. And then you type. You type until you do not have to think about where the letters are. Your body knows. This is referred to in guitar playing as “muscle memory”.

If you are learning to play guitar chords without the benefit of a teacher, then the idea of muscle memory is your friend. If you understand that you supply the time, say half an hour to two hours a day, practice time, then your body has the ability to learn how to make fast chord changes all by itself. You just need to give it time.

There is a degree of discomfort in learning guitar chords. Your left hand finger tips will hurt until you develop callouses, your back will complain about long hours of holding the guitar and your fingers are not enthusiastic at all about stretching to make chords and scales. Just remember that no matter what it looks like when you watch a professional guitar player at work, he had to go through what you are going through. And you can come out the other side playing chords, just like he can.

Learning guitar chords are one of the first steps to great guitar playing. You will be surprised how many different songs you will be able to play just by mastering a few simple guitar chords. By learning the G, C, D, A and E chords you will be able to play a lot of popular music. Learning guitar chords are one of the secrets to playing real music.

You need to start with the basics when you first start learning guitar chords. Chords consist of three or more notes played together. Every chord has a unique fingering on the frets and strings. If you want to master playing the guitar you will need to spend plenty of time getting your fingers in just the right position. Take enough time to memorize each one until it becomes natural to do. Repeat this over and over until your fingers remember the right spot to go on the guitar neck.

There are many different ways to learn how to play chords. It would be great if you have a friend or teacher to show you the way. When you get stuck it always helps to have someone you can turn to help you learn things the right way. However if you do not know anyone who can help you out there are many good guitar books.

Another way to learn how to play is to use a guitar chord sheet. These can be found in many books and all over the Internet. Chord sheets are pictures that show you where to put your fingers. There are lines that show you which string to use and tell you the correct fret to be on.

Although the basic chords are pretty simple to learn, as you advance in your playing you will find some of the fingerings will get hard. These will take you a little longer to get down but once you can combine both the simple and hard chords you will be well on your way to becoming a great guitar player.

You will not believe how many great tunes you can play just by mastering two or three chords. Once you learn a couple of chords it is time to get busy making music.

If you want to master guitar chords you can do it with practice. It is not that hard but it will not happen overnight. Spend as much time as you need learning guitar chords right so you will not have to undo any bad habits. Once you get it you will have a skill that will be with you all of your life.

s think we would like to play guitar, but thinking about it and actually trying to do it are two very different things. You can choose a guitar to buy, but once you are holding this instrument in your hand it is difficult to know how to play it – or even how to hold it properly. The good news is that there are plenty of resources available to learn how to play guitar, and some don’t even require that you leave the comfort of home to take advantage of them. There are many great websites that will teach you the basics of learning guitar so you can be strumming tunes before you ever even schedule your first private lesson.

The Basics

The first step in learning guitar is to collect all of the necessary supplies. Of course, the guitar is the first component to this process, but you will also need a guitar pick and a willingness to learn this craft. Keep in mind that your fingers will get sore when you first begin, so take a break between sessions and know that the discomfort will go away the more you play. To make the first few lessons a little easier, keep your fingernails trimmed down to make it easier for you play the notes and strum the strings.

The next step will be to learn some basic guitar terms, so that when you go online to take your lessons you will understand what the virtual instructor is talking about. Strings are strung across the guitar, and these are the elements you will use to get sounds out of your instrument. Frets are the small metal bars that divide the neck of the guitar into sections. When you go higher on the frets, you will go higher on the sounds.

Finding an Online Tutor

Once you’ve got the basics down, you can begin to shop for a video tutor that will get you started playing your instrument. The easiest way to find instruction is on the Internet, although you can find instructional DVD’s as well. Some of the websites you find will be free, while others will charge you for the instruction. You will need to decide for yourself whether you can find quality instruction without paying for it.

Many of these websites will also offer you reviews of guitar products that will help you find the best equipment and software for your needs. When you do find the best online tutorial, make sure that you follow the process step by step to ensure that you don’t miss any of the vital information in the early stages. Work at your own pace and make sure you completely master one lesson before you move onto the next. This will ensure your success in your guitar playing endeavor and help you make the most of your new hobby.

Guitar playing can be a fun pastime if you take the time to learn how to do it properly. With the right equipment and a good online tutorial, you will be strumming tunes in no time at all.

By: Robert

About the Author:

You can’t learn to play any musical instrument if you don’t own one especially in the case of an electric guitar. So if you want to easily learn to play an electric guitar, you should find the perfect guitar to suit your playing style.

Once you find the electric guitar that you love, you can now learn to play it. As compared to an acoustic guitar, electric guitars are mush easier to play. It would also be best if you can purchase a pick and an amp.

As you may have noticed, the electric guitar has several buttons or switches and you need to learn all of them. But before anything else, you should know the essentials in learning to play such a musical instrument.

Each kind of guitar has its own qualities. You have to familiarize yourself with the electric guitar’s qualities and features. Know all the guitar’s knobs or switches. You must know how to control them so that once you start playing the guitar you will know the right mixes of the knobs or switches.

If you can do this, you can expect the guitar’s sound to be at its best. Electric guitars are not simple instruments. Before you can effectively play this type of guitar, you would have to spend a huge portion of your time in learning to play it. Most especially, you need to learn to mix the tones and sounds together.

Aside from the electric guitar, you also need to get an amp and that was already mentioned awhile ago. Guitar amps are available in many sizes and you need to get the appropriate guitar amp. Since you’re a beginner, you need to get an amp that you can use during practice sessions. Buy only the best quality amp and make sure that you try it out before paying for it. Some stores allow their customers to test the amps at its highest point. Also, remember to purchase an amp that already has a distortion box because this is very important when it comes to playing an electric guitar.

There are many songs and guitar tracks using electric guitars. You need to be familiar with these said tracks so that learning to play such instrument will be a lot easier. If you’re a good listener to these guitar tracks and songs, you will learn fast. Try to reproduce the sounds you hear and if you can do it, then you can tell if you’re learning.

You can find further techniques, information, and tips online if you’re determined to learn to play an electric guitar. Remember these three essentials in learning to play such guitar: have your own electric guitar, get other guitar accessories like a pick and amps, and listen to guitar tracks or songs. If you know these three essentials, you’re on your way to learning to play an electric guitar.

So you see, you can easily learn to play an electric guitar by knowing the essentials. Now its time to pick out the method to use – whether you will hire a professional guitar instructor, buy a guitar instruction book, or learn through DVD programs and other internet guitar programs.

The Internet can be a a fantastic supplement to learning guitar as there are countless websites like ours that offer advice on teaching yourself and the different things that you should know. If you are about to or are planning to learn the instrument then there are lots of things you will need to decide before you get start. One of the first things to decide is if you will be learning on a electric or acoustic guitar. Whilst the fundamentals will be the same such as the notes you learning they can be a very different experience and will certainly lead to you developing a different kind of sound depending on which you learn on.

If you decide that it is electric guitar you want to learn then you will be looking into electric guitar learning. You will need to get the equipment but you can get quite good deals on starter guitars with a practice amp and guitar lead. A lot of people try to dive straight into learning a style or genre of guitar music for example learning to play blues guitar for beginners but it is always important to learn the basics of guitar before this such as the basic chords and where you will find the notes on the guitar. This can all be done via guitar books and it is important to try and understand some of the theory that goes with it. If you are learning acoustic guitar there is also more chance that you may want to learn how to use your fingers to pluck the strings on the guitar rather than always using a plectrum as with an electric.

If it is a young child that is learning guitar then you may be looking for information on learning kids guitar – there are three-quarter size guitars available to make it easier for the child to reach, as some of the notes on a full size guitar may require slightly longer fingers than the child has.

General advice for learning guitar would be to practise as much as possible as it may take some time for you to grasp the basics but once you have you will find it can be quite quick to advance onto harder songs and faster guitar playing. There is no set way of learning it is all down to the individual and what you find easiest. Some people find a it a lot easier to learn with proper lessons and a tutor where as some people find it much easier to teach themselves and learn at their own rate controlling the level they learn at. To be a good guitarist you will also need to be learning guitar frets and tabs as most guitar music you will find on the Internet and in books is in tablature format. This can be tricky at first but there is advice on the Internet to try and help you remember the notes and fret placements.

You may have decided that guitar is not for you and consider learning the Bass guitar. When learning to play the bass, one of the first things you will notice is that it is only 4 strings and songs are more based on one note strumming rather than chords that are essential for guitar playing. Bass guitar is still difficult though especially if you are wanting to be a really good bassist.

Are Flamenco guitar lessons worth taking for somebody not raised in Andalucia? Many years ago you had to be a black American to have any credibility as a blues singer or guitar player. And if you were not Spanish you never got anywhere as a Flamenco artist no matter how good you were. But these days, like many musical traditions, Flamenco is now embracing young people from non-Spanish origins. Twenty or thirty years ago Flamenco guitar playing, at least as perceived by people outside of Spain was dominated by a couple of third-rate guitar players who were good at promoting themselves. Now you can see many fantastic guitar players, professional and amateur, Spanish and non-Spanish giving wonderful Flamenco guitar performances on YouTube. Here is a rundown on the guitar techniques you will be introduced to if you decide to take Flamenco guitar lessons.

So onto some basic Flamenco guitar techniques. The most distinctive technique used in Flamenco is the tapping on the body of the guitar. This technique is called the golpe and is performed just below the sound hole. Flamenco guitars are made with a tapping plate to minimize damage to the guitar from constant hitting of the body. The golpe is often used in conjunction with downward strokes of the thumb and with continuous up and down strokes of the index finger used by guitarists playing the Flamenco musical form called Bulerias.

The rapid picking exhibited by Flamenco guitarists is called picado. This is also used in classical guitar but to nowhere near the same degree. It is a “rest” stroke which is played by striking a string with an upward stroke of the first or second finger which comes to rest on the string behind it. So if you play a rest stroke on the second string the finger comes into contact with the third string after it has struck the note. Flamenco scale passages are played as picado using rapid alternating strokes of the first and second fingers.

Another Flamenco guitar technique is the use of rapid arpeggios. Arpeggios are played by placing the first, second and third fingers in position on the first, second and third strings as if you are going to pluck a chord. Instead of plucking all three strings you lift your whole hand slightly so that the fingers play the strings in rapid succession. The thumb and fingers of a guitarist who has practiced this technique can play some very fast arpeggio passages. The effect is similar to sweep picking used in rock guitar.

The thumb is uses almost exclusively in downstrokes. This is another rest stroke where the thumb plays, for example, the sixth string and comes to rest on the fifth string before starting the next stroke. It may seem strange to anybody who has not tried it to make the thumb and fingers “rest” between strokes, but this technique can produce some very fast thumb and picado playing.

Another technique used in Flamenco guitar is the tremolo. This is a technique for producing a long line of melody notes accompanied by the thumb playing bass notes. This technique was borrowed from classical guitar and differs in that Flamenco tremolo is played with four notes between each bass note whereas classical guitarists only play three melody notes between bass notes. In most guitar notation systems the thumb is shown as “p” (for the Spanish “pulgar”), the index finger is shown as “i” , the middle finger is designated “m” and the ring finger is “a” (for annular which is latin for ring).

To play a continuous E on the open first string of the guitar, use the fingers and thumb in this order:

Play a bass note on the open sixth string with your thumb using rest stroke.

On the open first string:

Play a free stroke with i

Play a free stroke with a

Play a free stroke with m

Play a free stroke with i

You have just played one bass note followed by four melody notes. To continue playing, make an E chord with your left hand and alternate the bass notes between the sixth, fifth and fourth strings.

As you can see these techniques are hard to explain in words. They are easier to understand if you use my written descriptions in conjunction with watching Flamenco guitarists on video. It will take some hard work to actually use these techniques, and I strongly suggest you take lessons from a guitar player who knows how to play Flamenco.
