Spend this summer learning to play guitar…and go back to school in the Fall as a guitar God!

All the over analyzing that goes on about learning the guitar is so unnecessary – it’s not like, rocket science – it’s just GUITAR! I’ve been looking at what people are saying about this guitar course on DVDs because it may be better for some folks. Better than online guitar lessons, I mean. You know, waiting for a video to play, trying to rewind and stuff gets old. Some of the online lessons can be downloaded, sure. But they don’t always have the sequence or order specified really well.

So, I am thinking DVDs for learning to play the guitar are a good choice. Looks like this course by Steve Krenz is pretty well done. They have like an actual lesson plan, dude! Easy-to-follow instructions and there are extra CDs for the jam-along (where you play with a band, which is super cool). And you can take DVDs and play them in more places (not needing to be on the internet for practicing).

So, this course makes it straightforward and I thought I would show you some of the stuff they sell in the package. See, below is the box, a book, DVDs and CDs – Lots of stuff! You can learn acoustic or electric (or jazz or other styles of music with this course).

Anyway, it looks really professional and the guy who teaches it is really good. So, I’m not going to rewrite the whole thing about this ’cause there are a ton of people that like it and have written better reviews than I can. So, go read this one on a blog - it’s good: Learn and Master Guitar Review or this one (also a good one): Learn and Master Guitar.

So, now you know, you don’t have to be a genius to play the guitar (I’ve just shattered so many egos!). You just have to WANT to play and then practice…(and practice, and practice…)

Have you just bought a guitar or are you thinking of getting one, but you just do not have the first clue on how to strike a chord? If so, getting guitar lessons is definitely something you should consider.

It may be that you can even play a little bit already, but taking guitar lessons can still help to improve your playing abilities and your confidence.

The lessons that are available are categorized in nine different sections – – The basics – Technique – Chords – Scales – Tuning – Music Theory – Music Styles – Guitar Tech – Forming a band

The categories are broken down into individual lessons, offering you the chance to start from the very basics and work your way up to even being part of a band.

What You Need to Know About The Basics

So what should you expect to learn from the first lesson? Well, as with everything, it is important to start with the very basics and work your way up. It is a good idea to know your way around a guitar and you should expect to know all of this after your first lesson. You should also learn how to look after your guitar, tune it and also how to use the pick.

Generally, once you know the basics on how to look after the guitar, it is good to start off learning the basic chords before trying anything else. Many people find that the best way to start is by learning the G chord and working your way from there.

Obviously, before you start, you will need the basic equipment. Basic equipment includes a guitar, a guitar pick to play the chords, a comfortable chair and it is also wise to have a great deal of patience. Make sure that you buy quite a few guitar picks as they are small and they can be easy to lose or break. It may be an idea too, to buy medium gauge ones to start with because they are not too hard or too flimsy and they are good for beginners.

Now you know all about the guitar, it is now time to learn how to hold it correctly before you start to play anything. So grab your guitar and sit comfortably in your chair with out slouching, as it will bring on bad habits while playing the guitar. Your instructor will talk you through each step and, before you know it, you will be putting together your first sequence of chords.

Overall, to play a guitar the only thing you really need is passion. If it is something that you feel you want to succeed in, having guitar lessons will help you immensely. The more advanced a person becomes, the more tricks they can perform with their guitar that will help to bring confidence to their playing. Remember it is a good idea to keep practicing and it will soon pay off.

With children trying on extracurricular activities at the speed of light these days, it’s hard for parents to decide what to allow them to try and what to forego. This is where computerized guitar lessons can help cut the costs for parents while their children try on this pursuit for size.

The truth is computerized guitar lessons can be very beneficial not only for the parents’ wallets, but also young learners, as well. There are some very big advantages to checking out PC-based lessons for youngsters and even teens:

* The lower cost and commitment of this type of guitar lesson can save parents a lot of money in the long run if the child decides the guitar isn’t their instrument of choice.

* Computer-based lessons are comfortable for kids. While most parents might not have grown up learning via a PC, their children have. The truth is a lot of children are very, very comfortable learning from computer programs. Math, reading, science and even music can be taught quite effectively through computer programs.

* Privacy. Some youngsters just aren’t very comfortable taking their first few music lessons with “strangers.” There’s a fear of performing poorly, sounding bad or just not “getting it.” Computerized guitar lessons can remove some of these fear factors and free youngsters to learn and enjoy. They do this while also offering solid instruction and the correct building blocks to help them advance if they so choose.

* Time. If a youngster decides lessons aren’t for them, there isn’t a huge time investment lost in hours and hours of paid instruction. On the converse, if a child thrives on guitar lessons, the PC based programs enable them to take as many hours of instruction as they want at no additional charge.

* Visual assistance. While it’s true nothing replaces a human instructor for lessons, computerized guitar classes come close. Since the lessons can and generally do include video clips, as well, young learners will still get to see the chords, where their fingers should be placed and so on.

* Pacing. By taking computerized lessons children are free to go as fast or as slowly as they’d like. This provides an individualized spin to learning that can be very important for building confidence and skill level while encouraging a child to keep on learning.

Music is an important part of life and many parents would love to see their children learn to appreciate it. The problem is there are so many after-school activity choices, some kids never find their groove.

For those with an interest in the guitar, computerized lessons can be just the ticket to help them learn without a huge risk for their parents’ bank accounts. Plus, if these lessons are successful, there are lots of other learning opportunities parents and their children can pursue without concern the interest isn’t really there.

If you have looked online to find some free, easy guitar lessons you probably have found that most of them are not so very useful. Yes, there are many websites that you can look at but not all of them will help you in any certain way. And what is worse is that while some will show you tips, they might actually not teach you anything.

Whenever you venture into learning anything it is always best to learn the right way to do it, learning to play the guitar is the same. Picking up a bad habit is always easy to do, but if you start with bad habits at the beginning of your guitar playing odds are that you will have a hard time breaking them later on.

There are many things that you should consider when looking for free, easy to learn guitar lessons online. Things such as whether or not they teach you how to hold the guitar as well as how to hold the pick. Also you will need to learn the chord names, finger placement and progressions. Well, and let’s not forget the scale names, intervals and fingerings. These are all things that you should look for when trying to find online guitar lessons. Some places will even teach you some useful practice lessons as well as warm-ups.

More often than not, when you are searching for free guitar lessons online, you will come across a lot of lessons that will just give you tablature of your favorite songs. That sounds nice and all but a lot of the time these tablatures are transcribed by guitar players who don’t have much more experience than you yourself do. Kind of like the blind leading the blind huh?

For this reason, it is best to make sure that these free and easy to learn guitar lessons you find have some at least a few of the aspects that I listed for you earlier. This will ensure that you actually have a chance of learning the guitar and not a badly transcribed song. Once you learn the fingerings of the chords and scales, as well as learn a good practice routine including a warm up exercise or two, you will ensure that you are practicing the good habits of playing the guitar.

With all of the bogus advice you find online it can be very difficult to decipher which is which. But once you do, no amount of book reading can take place of actually playing the guitar. You need to take the time to actually sit down and put what you’ve learned into play.

So remember, when you go looking online for your guitar lessons, try to make sure that you find ones that teach you the best way to learn to play the guitar.

If learning how to play a guitar like a professional is the aim, lessons will absolutely be in order. Getting started will involve not only an investment of money, but also time. The only way to truly become an axe grinding guitar player is to learn the instrument inside out and backwards.

There are a number of locations where free, basic guitar lessons can be found. This is great for someone starting out who simply wants to see if the instrument is for them before proceeding to pay for more advanced, professional lessons either in person or online.

The only catch to learning via free lessons, however, is making sure you find a course that teaches you what you need to know to get started in a correct manner. A lot of what goes into making a good player is memorization and repetition. If lessons are incorrectly learned, they will be hard to undo. Just like in anything else, bad habits learned on the guitar are hard to break.

With this in mind, here are some of the basics you should look to study when learning the guitar is the mission:

* Beginning guitarists should learn about the instrument they’re playing. This means how to hold the guitar and how to handle a pick. It also involves learning the parts of the guitar, a simple sale and a few chords. A beginner song or two can go into a very first lesson, but this isn’t necessary coming out of the gate.

* As lessons progress, so too should the difficulty of those lessons. After the basics are learned, it’s time to move on to more scales, the names of open strings, strumming techniques and patterns and even minor chords.

* Lessons, whether free or not, should build upon each other, constantly challenging the player to learn more and do more. After some proficiency is gained, basic songs should be added on top of chords and scales. Songs should be designed to reinforce the lessons taught before while also opening the door for future learning.

* As lesson progress, fingering techniques, strumming patterns and more should be built upon and added to.

Once free lessons have been exhausted, a beginning player should at least be proficient enough to play a few songs, understand the notes on a guitar and handle basic cords and more. The key to learning the guitar along with any other instrument is practice.

Following free courses, guitar players will find there are a number of locations where paid lessons can be had. Either in person or online, the only way to master the instrument is to keep learning and keep practicing. Online courses can be a great way to go for the beginner, the novice and even the pro. Good locations will provide lots of visuals and audio clips so players know exactly what the sounds should sound like and where hands should be placed on a guitar.

If you’re just starting out, taking advantage of free lessons is a good idea. Just remember, no great guitarist was created in a day.

Maybe you have thought about computer guitar lessons. If you could order your own tailor-made guitar lesson course for your computer, what would you request? It might help to think about the basic requirements of computer guitar lessons. Basically your lessons need to show you how to hold and play the guitar, how to read guitar tabs, sheet music or both, and some way of checking your progress. So let us look at some of the computer guitar lessons out there and see how they fulfill our requirements.

Learn And Master Guitar has a one-hundred page book, twenty DVDs, five CDs featuring backing tracks plus they offer free support. The structure of this course follows the basic principles of all computer guitar lessons: you have your learning material that you get from the book and from the DVDs, and you practice what you have learned using the backing tracks as a guide and reality check on your emerging guitar skills.

Another computer guitar course is called Amazing Guitar Secrets. Once again you have a book and DVDs containing your guitar lessons and backing tracks to play along with. You can track how you are progressing using a section of the book which allows you to have a visual record of what you have learnt.

If you have been looking around for computer guitar lessons you have probably come across Jamorama. Jamorama is for the guy who does not take music particularly seriously but thinks it might be cool to be able to play some songs and riffs on the guitar. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. To be fair, Jamorama does give you plenty of substantial material in the books, audio and video which you download to make you a “real” guitar player should you so desire.

The three guitar lesson courses I have mentioned are meant to be shipped to you in printed form and on discs or downloaded and kept on your computer. There is another alternative: the membership site. The most comprehensive and so far the most successful is Jamplay. With Jamplay you get access to a number of guitar teachers who are experts in their own style of music. These teachers are videoed giving lessons illustrating techniques and how to play particular songs. The lessons cover all stages of guitar learning. So with Amazing Guitar Secrets, Jamorama and Learn And Master Guitar you get to keep all the guitar lessons at your house, your Jamplay membership gets you access to any improvements, revisions and updates that occur. Jamplay also has progress reports, a forum and support through video answers to your questions. Jamplay is probably the most economical option as you can pay by the month, and your fees drop drastically if you pay by the quarter or annually.

I should mention that none of the above computer guitar lesson courses lack for quality. The printed material, downloadable audio and video, CDs and DVDs are all first class. The difference between the methods is the varying approaches to the guitar.
